InMotion Recital Survival Guide

Now that I’m all ready to dance, what should I bring?  Please remember that we need to see those incredible faces on stage. All dancers must wear make-up. We ask that dancers come to the rehearsal and the performances with their make-up and hair already done.

  • Make-up Must-Haves
    • Foundation one or two shades darker than natural skin colour.
    • Eye Shadows – brown tones, and whites for highlights – NO greens, or Electric Blues please!
    • Mascara/Eyeliner (Black)
    • Light Blush (brownish/red) NO pinks
    • Lipstick – Red or deep red

**Note: Foundation, blush, and eyeliner are optional for the little ones… unless they really just want to look “like mom does.” **

  • Hair Must-Haves
    • HAIR!! (Yes, Dads, you too can make “the perfect ballet bun”.)
    • Hair must be in a Bun. Hair nets are acceptable as long as they match the hair colour.
    • Hair elastics, close to actual hair colour. Browns, blacks, or clear elastics for blondes. DO NOT use rubber bands, as these are extremely painful, and absolutely NO scrunchies, colourful bands or ties, or anything that might resemble “foo-foo hair” in any way. The only thing required for hair “dressing” is the actual hairpiece of the costume if there is one.
    • Bobby Pins - straight
    • Bun Pins or Hair Pins – a must for making a bun in thick hair.
    • Gel/Hair Spray Hair nets to tie it all together and keep loose ends from flying out.

**Note: For stubborn hair, or hair that is a little shorter, it is best to put the hair up when it is wet, followed by that rock-hard-tornado-proof-sticky-stuff hairspray.**

  • Costumes, make sure your child’s name is on her costume.
  • Shoes Dance - shoes should be cleaned with a damp cloth and ready for the performance. Please be sure your child’s name is in the shoes so that they are not lost.
  • Bring something for your child to play with / do while they are in the dressing room waiting to perform - colouring books and crayons (no markers as the costumes can be stained), reading books, movies and portable dvd players, board games or cards.
  • PLEASE REMEMBER - there is NO EATING or DRINKING in costumes.
